NFL Preseason Tennessee Titans at Seattle Seahawks Start Time, Odds and Free Pick

There are questions aplenty for the Titans and Seahawks as they head into tonight’s preseason contest at CenturyLink Field in Seattle (10:00pm ET start time; coverage provided by NFL Network). Few of them will be answered this evening, though, as exhibition openers tend to provide cursory evidence, at best, for those in charge of roster decisions. They also supply little confirmation as to how a team will perform in the regular season, but it is, nonetheless, an evaluation opportunity for coaches, fans, and odds makers alike. And speaking of odds, the latest NFL Preseason Tennessee Titans at Seattle Seahawks Odds have Peter Carroll’s squad listed as a -3 against the spread favorite; the Titans are drawing +145 odds ($100 to win $145) to win tonight’s game outright.

Seattle fielded a top 10 defense a season ago, but its inept offense, piloted by Minnesota cast-off Tarvaris Jackson, led to another 7-9 finish. The poor production prompted the club to sign Matt Flynn, who threw for 518 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions in limited relief of Aaron Rodgers last season, and draft Wisconsin signal caller Russell Wilson.

Carroll has said those two will take all the snaps at quarterback tonight as he attempts to come to a decision on a starter. The former USC front man contends that Jackson is still in the running as well, but he prefers to give more preseason time to Flynn and Wilson because he knows what Jackson can do (answer: not much).

Tonight could also mark the Seattle debut for a pair of talented but aging, and often troubled, receivers in Terrell Owens and Braylon Edwards. Both players, should they show well in exhibition play, stand a decent chance of making the Seahawks (note: thin on serviceable receivers) final roster.

Tennessee also comes into tonight’s game with a quarterback quandary as Mike Munchak and his staff are deciding between former Seahawk and last year’s starter Matt Hasselbeck and last year’s first round pick, Jake Locker.

By most accounts Locker, who threw for 542 yards and four touchdowns last season, has the upper hand at this point, but Hasselbeck will get the start tonight.

Game Notes: The Titans were 3-1 in preseason play last year (Munchak’s first as head coach), but they were 1-3 against the spread. The Seahawks are 3-5 under Carroll in the preseason and they are 2-2 in four exhibition outings at CenturyLink Field during his tenure. Seattle is 2-0 in preseason openers with Carroll on the sideline, though, beating Tennessee 20-18 in 2010 and San Diego 24-17 last year.

Free Pick: Take the Over 35.5 in tonight’s game.

NFL Preseason Tennessee Titans at Seattle Seahawks Odds:

Tennessee Titans +3 (-110), Over 35.5 (-110), +145 (Moneyline)

Seattle Seahawks -3 (-110), Under 35.5 (-110), -165 (Moneyline)
