The Detroit Lions have been the lovable losers for too long. Jim Caldwell was brought in to be the coach of the Lions, giving them discipline and stability. They have a lot of talent on the roster, but without doing the little things the Lions won't be winners.
Jacksonville is trying to win using the same model — hard work. Gus Bradley had a team last season that played well in the middle part of the season, winning four of five. But Jacksonville ran out of steam late, losing their final three games despite being in all three contests. The Jaguars are wanting to build on their talented youth in the AFC South.
Chad Henne has been getting a lot of snaps with the first team, but Blake Bortles will see action with them tonight as well. The Jaguars look like they want to use Henne as the starter, but could use Bortles at some point this season.
Detroit has no quarterback challenge as Matt Stafford has all the talent. Caldwell will need to continue to work with him in making the right decisions, however. Stafford has thrown too many interceptions in his career but has looked very well in the preseason. Remember, he also still isn't throwing to Calvin Johnson, the best receiver in football. He should play a couple of series in this one tonight.
Tonight we like the Lions at home by around a field goal. Their defense is better overall and has been working well the preseason. Expect the starters to get some more snaps tonight and we'll take the Lions at home.
