Andrew Luck’s NFL indoctrination continues tonight as the heralded rookie and the new look Colts take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on NBC Sunday Night Football (8:00pm ET start time). The latest NFL Preseason Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers Odds would indicate a repeat of last week’s performance from Luck and company is probably not likely. The Steelers are a -3.5 against the spread favorite in tonight’s game and the game total is set at 38 points.

Andrew Luck has all the tools to become a great NFL quarterback, all biped mammals came to a consensus on this when Luck was still under center for the Stanford Cardinal. Still, his league debut against the Rams last Sunday was startling. Luck treated the St. Louis secondary as if it belonged to San Jose State, completing 10-of-16 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns.

Indianapolis, which won the game 38-3, racked up 23 first downs and 430 yards of offense in just under 30:00 minutes of possession.

While the bar was already high for Luck, he raised it even higher with his performance against the Rams; however, few are expecting a duplicate effort in this evening’s showdown with the Steelers. Pittsburgh is not a fun place to play, even in the preseason, unless one is donned in black and gold.

Mike Tomlin seems to value winning exhibition games (owns a 16-6 preseason record), particularly ones at Heinz Field. Since Tomlin took over for Bill Cowher in 2007, the Steelers are 10-1 in preseason home games, winning by an average of 12.4 points per contest.

The Steelers also figure to give their starters a bit more playing time in tonight’s game. Last week the first team offense played just one series, producing three points on a 16 play, 52 yard drive. Pittsburgh eventually lost the game 23-24 to in-state rival Philadelphia, but it outscored the Eagles 13-0 in the first half.
