The Detroit Lions and Washington Redskins meet up tonight in NFL Preseason football action. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live in both markets. Currently the odds for the game have the Redskins favored by about a field goal to pick up the win.
The Lions looked very solid in their opening preseason game, but they did beat the New York Jets. Washington won a tight one on the road at Cleveland, so both teams come into tonight's game with a 1-0 record.
In Detroit's game, Matthew Stafford drove the first team down the field, mainly throwing to Golden Tate. The duo hooked up for two passes and 57 yards, one went for a touchdown. The Lions defense looked solid, holding the Jets to only 123 yards of total offense. To be fair, New York had to scramble once quarterback Geno Smith was socked in the face earlier in the week, but he wouldn't have played much anyway.
Ameer Abdullah, a rookie tailback for the Lions, certainly looked the part of being an amazing back coming out of Nebraska. Abdullah busted off a 45-yard run and collected a game-high 67 yards on seven carries in the win. Detroit will certainly be looking for an explosive threat out of the backfield after letting Reggie Bush go. They have the bruiser in Joquie Bell, now Abdullah gives them a great option as well.
Washington has all kinds of problems on the offensive end at quarterback. Robert Griffin III and the first team offense couldn't find the end zone in the team's win over Cleveland, Kirk Cousins had little problems leading his team down the field and scoring points. It's only one preseason game, but Griffin needs to find a way to get back to the quarterback he was as a rookie, if that's even possible.
The Redskin defense played well, holding Cleveland to just 3.1 yards per play. The Lions averaged nearly six yards per play themselves last week against the Jets. The offense for the Lions looked very nice and they'll look to replicate that again tonight. Take the points.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
