NFL Preseason Detroit Lions vs Cleveland Browns

Detroit Lions vs. Cleveland Browns: A Cleveland Take on Detroit

The Detroit Lions host the Cleveland Browns tonight in NFL Preseason action. This is the first game for both teams with the Lions hosting the Browns in the opening week of the NFL Preseason.

Cleveland Browns -1 -110 -120 Ov 39½ -110
Detroit Lions +1 -110 +100 Un 39½ -110

New regimes begin in both Cleveland and Detroit, with Mike Pettine getting his first NFL head coaching gig with the Browns. His team drafted Johnny Manziel to either sell jerseys and make money or put him on the field to win games. Yet, with Manziel being only a rookie the Browns have decided to go with Bryan Hoyer as their starting signal caller this season. Pettine said he won the job, which very well may be the case. Manziel obviously has a lot of maturing to do, but he should see a lot of time on the field in this game and will eventually get on the field during the regular season.

Detroit welcomes in their new coach, Jim Caldwell, after firing Jim Schwartz last season. The Lions led the NFC North by a game and a half late last year but collapsed down the stretch, going just 1-6 and missing out on the playoffs. Caldwell has been brought in to restore the roar for the Lions, making them a disciplined team that doesn't beat themselves.

It will start with quarterback Matthew Stafford, who enters another year as the savior of the Lions. Stafford has been both bad and great in his time under center in Detroit. Many believe the hiring of Caldwell, tabbed a quarterback guru, was made to take Stafford to the next level. He'll see some time tonight on the field with the Lions' ones.

Depth is an important issue in the NFL and tonight should showcase which team is better in that department. The Lions have great players on defense, but haven't been able to figure out how to consistently be a good defensive team. If they are able to pass that hurdle this season they can be a very good squad.

Overall, we like the Lions to win at home. Detroit fans care a lot about football, even the preseason, and they will be loud in that place tonight. Also, I expect the Browns to make just one too many mistakes in this one.
