NFL Week 5 continues today and we will see the Philadelphia Eagles travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Giants. The game will be televised on Fox and has a start time of 1:00 pm (Eastern). Current Odds have New York listed as 1 point favorites, while the total sits at 54.5.
Analysis: The Eagles have not had the start they wee expecting and it doesn't look as if this new offense has been all that effective yet, but it is early and Im sure we haven't seen the whole Chip Kelly playbook yet. Kelly's high-octane offense leads the NFC with 480.5 yards per game, but Vick has been sacked 14 times and he has thrown a couple of picks. RB LeSean McCoy leads the NFL with 468 rushing yards and four of his 14 career 100-yard rushing efforts have come against New York. The Defense though is the real reason that this team is sitting at 1-3 on the year. The Eagles defense is 2nd worst in the league, yielding 461.3 ypg, while also allowing 34.5 ppg. The Eagles have won eight of the last 10 overall meetings, although their five-game road win streak in this series ended with a 42-7 defeat Dec. 30, 2012, in Andy Reid's last game as coach.
The New York Giants remain convinced that they can make the playoffs this season despite an 0-4 start. Eli Manning is leading having a rough go of it as he is leading the league with nine interceptions through four games, which is part of New York’s NFL-high 16 turnovers. Manning threw five TD passes in a 42-7 win the last time the rivals met on Dec. 30, 2012. Manning will continue to try to target Victor Cruz, fourth in the NFL with 425 yards receiving to go with four touchdown receptions. Like the Eagles, the Giants have struggled on defense, allowing 36.5 ppg and 384.2 ypg. The Giants are 81-73-2 all-time in this series, while Coughlin is 10-10 (0-2 playoffs) against the Eagles.
Pick: I like the Eagles in this one. The Giants are a mess right now and they can't seem to protect Manning, which has lead to many costly turnovers by the Giants. Philadelphia's offense has put up plenty of yards this year, but they have had problems protecting Vick. Still the Giants don't have much of a pass rush and I feel that their defesne will have a hard time stopping the Eagles in this one. Philly pulls it out late.
