NFL Point Spreads Buffalo Bills vs Cleveland Browns

NFL Week 5 gets underway tonight and we will see the Buffalo Bills travel to Ohio to take on the Cleveland Browns. The game will be televised on NFL Network and has a start time of 8:30 pm (Eastern). Current Odds have Cleveland listed as 4 point favorites, while the total sits at 40.5.

Analysis: The Bills ran their record to 2-2 after last week's solid victory over Baltimore. EJ Manuel continues to lead this offense, but he wasn't much of a factor in the win over the Ravens. Instead, the Bills used their ground game (203 yards) to pull out the victory. The Bills are now 2nd in the league in rushing, putting up 152 ypg, but injury concerns are looming. CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson combined for 164 yards in the win over Baltimore, but both were hurt in the game. Jackson should play, but Spiller is listed as a game time decision. Buffalo's defense collected four sacks and intercepted quarterback Joe Flacco five times in the win and that was one of their better defensive efforts of the year so far. For the most part Buffalo has struggled on that side of the ball, ranking 27th overall, 22nd vs the pass and 27th vs the run.

The Cleveland browns looked dead in the water with an 0-2 start, but then the Richardson trade happened and they have now reeled off two straight wins. Another big reason for the turnaround has been the play of Brian Hoyer, who has completed 59.8% of his passes for 590 yards, while compiling a solid 83.2 passer rating. He has made some mistakes, but so far none have cost his team. The Offense is still weak, ranking 24th overall 27th in rushing, but Hoyer has helped them move up to 14th in passing. The 16 ppg the Browns put up needs to improve though. On the other side of the ball we find a defense that has been one of the best in the league so far. The Browns come in ranked 3rd in yards allowed (291.5 ypg), 9th vs the pass, 4th vs the run and they allow just 17.5 ppg, which is 8th in the league. If the offense improves then this team could very well land a playoff spot.

Pick: I see the OU line going up a bit, but I don't understand why. This should be a classic defensive battle. Neither QB is really good enough to lead many scoring drives vs these defenses. The Bills have some injury problems at RB, but they will still continue to pound the rock, while will eat up plenty of clock. It will also be tough for this average Bills offense to put up much on this very stout Cleveland defense that ranks in the top 9 in the league in all major categories. On the other side we have a weak and conservative Cleveland offense that averages just 16 ppg. They can really afford to be Conservative as they have that excellent defense to fall back on. They still can't run the ball very well, but I expect them to work on that as it will take the pressure off of Hoyer. This has the feel of a 17-13 type of game.
