The Atlanta Falcons still lead the NFC?South and a pair of wins the remainder of the season would have them finish with an 11-5 record. They’re currently slotted in the No. 3 spot in the NFC ahead of Detroit based on strength of victories this season and they’ve won three of four NFC?South games already. The one loss came in the opening week of the season to Tampa Bay — Atlanta already owns a 48-33 win over Carolina stemming from the first month of the season.
In that game, Atlanta was in clear control but gave up 23 fourth-quarter points to the Panthers that made the score a little bit easier on the eyes. Matt Ryan threw for an insane 503 yards with four touchdowns, and maybe more impressive was Julio Jones hauling in 12 passes for 300 yards, though only one touchdown was scored by him.
Cam?Newton has led Carolina to consecutive victories over San Diego and Washington. Newton has not had a stellar season, completing just under 54 percent of his passes and accouting for 12 turnovers. Whether he is getting unfair treatment from officials or not, the results just have not been there for him and the Panthers. Carolina can have a winning season at home with a win here and weather could play a factor in the contest.
Atanta is scoring better than 33 points per game, which leads the league. Ryan is having a potential MVP season and after already torching the Panthers this season, he should feel comfortable here even on the road.
