While the entire state of Nebraska expected the Cornhuskers to win the Big Ten in their inaugural run in the conference, their title hopes did not come to fruition. Instead, the Huskers finished third in the Legends Division behind Michigan State and Michigan with a 5-3 league record. Nebraskans, the loyal fans that they are, believe that finishing order will change this season, but the odds maker do not concur. The Huskers, according to the latest Nebraska 2012 College Football Predictions, are a second pick to win the division (+175 odds or $100 to win $175) and a third pick to win the conference (+525 odds). 2013 BCS Odds have Nebraska listed as a +7000 moneyline play to capture another national championship.
Nebraska ran the gamut in its first Big Ten season, putting together the good, bad, and ugly while finding its way to a 9-4 finish. The Huskers had some nice moments, beating Ohio State, Michigan State, and Iowa, but they also produced a trio of head-scratchers, getting blasted by Wisconsin and Michigan and falling at home to a pedestrian Northwestern team.
Nebraska, if the latest game lines prove correct, should exact revenge against both the Badgers and Wolverines this year. The Huskers, who host both of those schools, are presently listed as a -3 against the spread favorite against Wisconsin (9/29) and they are two point favorite in their October 27th meeting with Michigan.
Nebraska, which opened at No. 17 in the AP Poll, is expected to lose in its road meetings with the Spartans and Buckeyes, though. Ohio State is a 4.5 point favorite while Michigan State is giving five points to the Huskers.
If these four games hold to anticipated form, Nebraska seems like a good candidate to go over or push at its season win total of nine games. Bo Pelini’s squad is favored, at -155 odds, to finish with fewer than the nine wins it posted last year.
