The LSU Tigers and NC State Wolfpack meet in the NCAA Tournament Second Round later tonight. The game is scheduled for a 9:20 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on TBS. The College Basketball Betting Odds for the game have NC State favored by a slim amount in what is expected to be a close game.
This should be a pretty good contest. While there are some contrasting styles as NC State has great guard play and LSU sports a massive front line, each team forcing the other into being uncomfortable should be fun to see.
NC State finished the season with 20 victories, LSU had 22. The ACC probably was the better overall conference compared to the SEC based on depth and quality of teams, but there’s no guarantee that makes any difference tonight.
NC State just got wrecked in the ACC Tournament by Duke, they’ll have to regroup and find a way to show up in this one tonight. We’ve seen several teams have slow starts in the tournament so far and Iowa State and Baylor already laid eggs in the opening day.
LSU also wants to get back on the floor after a poor performance, but that one actually might have been worse. The Tigers lost their opening game of the conference tournament to bottom feeder Auburn in overtime 73-70.
With both teams needing better showings on the floor, the edge could go to the team with the better guards. NC State has a pair of nice ones with Trevor Lacey and Ralston Turner. The third guard is good as well with Anthony Barber also averaging in double digits.
LSU wants a half-court game and they want to smash the basketball into Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey, a pair of big men that are double-double machines. LSU also has a couple of other players averaging double digits per game and if the Tigers play their style of basketball, they are going to be tough to beat.
But in March having experienced guards that can get their own shots and pressure the opposition are valuable. That gives the edge to NC State.
