The Georgetown Hoyas and Eastern Washington Eagles meet up tonight in the NCAA Tournament Second Round. The game is scheduled for a 9:57 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on truTV. Currently the College Basketball Betting Odds for the game have Georgetown favored by a couple of buckets to earn the win.

This has been the game talked about quite frequently since the brackets came out with many national pundits picking Georgetown to fall. The Eagles have some nice wins on the season, beating both Texas Southern and Indiana, both tournament teams. Eastern Washington can shoot, score points and look nice when they have the basketball, but on the year the Eagles gave up an average of 74 points per game, which ranks 328th nationally. In order to win at this time of year, teams need to play well on both ends of the floor. Iowa State proved that today as the Cyclones were not a good defensive team all year and got bounced by an inferior team that played well offensively and rebounded. Georgetown will look to do both against the Eagles.

The Hoyas played one of the toughest schedules in America this season, compiling a record of 6-9 against teams that made the NCAA Tournament, including losing two of their last three. Georgetown is not a fast-paced team and they can struggle at times to score points, which could be a problem. 

This is the final game of the night to tip off in the tournament and Eagles coach Jim Hayford already got the Hoyas some bulletin board material, telling a national radio audience his team would win the game tonight.  

Georgetown has some experienced players, but last season they were in the NIT and not the big one. But when they’ve been in the tournament recently they’ve been bounced by double digit seeds — each of the last five appearances, in fact. 

Point guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera and center Josh Smith prove to be the difference tonight. Both are excellent at their respective positions and give the Hoyas a pair that will be important tonight.

Georgetown is the better team, but can they shed the demons of the double digit seeds from recent years? If they rebound well, they win.
