Randy Edsall's Maryland Terrapins will look to stay unbeaten this weekend when they battle West Virginia at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. Saturday's meeting between the Terps and Mountaineers is scheduled to get underway at 3:30pm ET on ESPNU. NCAA College Football Odds from offshore bookmaker 5Dimes have Maryland listed as a -5 against the spread favorite and the Over/Under set at 53 points. West Virginia is drawing +170 money line odds to register its third win of the season.
West Virginia has two wins in three games, but those two victories came against William and Mary and Georgia State. The Mountaineers dropped their lone contest against a real opponent, but they did show well in falling 7-16 to the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman.
The Mountaineers hung in the game thanks to an opportunistic defense (forced four OU turnovers) and a ground game that cranked out 169 yards on 24 carries (7 ypc), but the Sooners ability to rush the ball at will proved West Virginia's undoing. Oklahoma finished the game with 316 rush yards on 57 carries.
Those numbers do not bode well for Dana Holgorsen's crew this weekend. Maryland is averaging over 40 points per game and its rushing attack posted 251 yards against FIU, 312 yards against Old Dominion, and 224 yards against Connecticut.
The Terps production on the ground has been nothing short of miraculous, and it is a testament to Edsall's coaching chops as they averaged just 103 rush yards per game and 2.6 yards per carry last season.
With West Virginia's offense still breaking in a number of new players (lost eight starters from last year), the Mountaineers may have trouble keeping up with Maryland this weekend.
