The Bowling Green Falcons welcome the Akron Zips to Bowling Green this weekend for a MAC showdown at Perry Stadium. Saturday's meeting between the Falcons and Zips is scheduled to kickoff at 2:30pm ET; it can be seen live on ESPN3. The latest NCAA College Football Odds have the Falcons listed as a -14.5 against the spread home favorite and the Over/Under set at 54.5 points. The Zips are getting +475 money line odds ($100 wins $475) while Bowling Green is a -650 straight up pick ($650 wins $100).

Despite its 1-3 record, Akron is an improved team from a season ago. The Zips, who went 1-11 last year, have been competitive outside of their 7-38 season opening loss at Central Florida.

Akron topped James Madison 35-33 and it nearly stunned Michigan two weekends ago, falling 24-28 at the Big House. The Zips followed up their nail biting loss to the Wolverines with a 30-35 home setback to Louisiana-Lafayette.

Now Terry Bowden's crew will open their conference slate against the team many have pegged to win the MAC in Bowling Green.

The Falcons have been tough as nails this, particularly on defense, with the exception of a road game at Indiana on September 14th. The explosive Hoosiers defeated Bowling Green 10-42 after posting 25 first downs and 601 total yards.

Prior to its meeting with Indiana, Bowling Green wiped out Tulsa 34-7 and Kent State 41-22. The Falcons bounced back from their loss to the Hoosiers with a 48-7 thrashing of FCS school Murray State.

When these two division rivals hooked up at Infocision Stadium in Akron last season Bowling Green came away with a 24-10 victory. The Falcons held the Zips to 316 total yards and they also generated four sacks. Bowling Green's offense finished just short of 500 yards (472) for the game and it rushed for 292 yards on 44 carries (6.6 ypc).

While the Zips are a better team this year, the gap has done nothing but widen between them and Falcons. Akron's offense is still brutal, ranking 86th overall and 106th in rushing, and its defense is hardly better, giving up 464.8 yards per game.

The Falcons, who are giving up just 372 yards per game, should have little trouble containing the Zips mostly anemic offense. And when Bowling Green's has the ball, it rushing attack should go through Akron's soft defensive front with ease.

Notable Trends: Akron is 0-4 both straight up and against the spread in its last four games as a road underdog with a spread between 14 and 17.5 points in the month of September.
