Analysis: Big revenge game here for Villanova, as they were beaten on their home floor by 28 points earlier in the year. That was just 1 of their two losses this year, as the Cats come in at 22-2 overall and 10-1 in the Big East. The Cats have been a very good offensive team this year, averaging 80.7 ppg to rank 21st in the nation, while shooting 46.7% from the floor, which is 60th in the nation. 3 player average in double figures for the Cats, with James Bell leading the way with 16 ppg, while JayVaughn Pinkston (14.9) and Darrun Hillard (13/9 ppg) round out the solid trio. On defense, Villanova has been very solid this year, allowing just 66.7 ppg, which is 85th in the nation, but they did allow 96 points to Creighton the first time around.
Creighton is playing their first year in the Big East and it has been a success as they are 20-4 overall and 10-2 with in the Big East. They are also a prefect 13-0 at home as well. Creighton is also a very good offensive team, averaging 80 ppg (25th0 on 48.9% shooting overall (12th) and 41.9% from long range, which is 2nd in the nation. The team is lead by Doug McDermott, who just may be the best player in the nation. Doug does it all for this team as he leads them in scoring (25.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg), while also hitting 50.2% of his shots overall, 43.4% from long range and 89.4% from the charity stripe. He is truly a stat sheet stuffer. Ethan Wragge leads the team in 3pt shooting (48.2%) and is also the only other player that averages in DD for the Bluejays (11.9 ppg). The jays are solid defensively, allowing just 65.7 pg on 40.8% shooting.
Pick: This is a huge revenge spot for the Cats and I feel that they can pull it off. Usually when a team gets a beatdown like they did they come back with a much stronger showing in the next game, especially if its a talented team like the Cats are. They will devise a plan to slow down McDermott and walk away with the win here.
