MLB Wednseday Los Angeles Dodgers at St Louis Cardinals: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Hi-res-149011483_crop_650x440

Wednesday night baseball and we will see the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the St Louis Cardinals in game 3 of their 4 game series from St Louis. The game is scheduled for an 8:15 (ET) pm start time and it will be televised live on ESPN. Currently the odds have St Louis favored at -150, while Los Angeles is dogs of +141. The total for the game sits at 8.5 runs.

Free Analysis: The Dodgers are 24-25 on the road this season, but they’re 4-1 on the current 10-game trip that concludes with three critical games at San Francisco. The Dodgers (53-45) scored 33 runs during a run of five straight victories but could push across only two while having their eight-game win streak in the series snapped with Tuesday's 8-2 defeat. The Cardinals (51-46) will now try to improve to 5-1 on their seven-game homestand and earn an 11th win in 14 games at Busch Stadium behind Lohse (10-2, 2.71 ERA). The right-hander hasn't given up more than two runs in any of his last six starts, going 4-0 with a 2.16 ERA, and is 5-1 with a 2.02 ERA in his last nine. He's also won three straight outings at home, including a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Lohse gave up one run and six hits over seven innings to outduel NL ERA leader Ryan Dempster in that win. Lohse gave up a season-high 11 hits to the Dodgers on May 20 in California but allowed just three runs over 5 2-3 innings during a 6-5 loss for the Cardinals. Lohse opposes former teammate Aaron Harang (7-5, 3.46), who is 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA in three starts this month. The two played together in Cincinnati for portions of the 2006 and 2007 seasons. In 24 career starts against the Cardinals, Harang is 7-13 with a 4.47 ERA. Rafael Furcal is 10-for-21 (.476) against him, and Carlos Beltran is 10-for-29 (.345) with two homers. The veteran right-hander is 0-4 with a 3.94 ERA in his last five starts against the Cardinals, but he's gotten a combined five runs of support in those games. In this game, Harang might not have to face Lance Berkman, who has the most career home runs off the right-hander with seven. The Cardinals first baseman was hit by a pitch on his surgically repaired right knee Tuesday and left the game in the third inning. Former Cardinal Adam Kennedy, day to day after tweaking his groin Tuesday, is 15 for 37 (.405) lifetime against Lohse. The Dodgers have outscored their opponents by 10 runs this year, while the Cardinals have outscored theirs by 90.

Free Pick:  St Louis won last night's game in easy fashion and that broke an 8 game losing streak for them in this series. I expect them to get 2 in a row tonight. The Cards started out the second half 1-5, but all 6 games were on the road and on this home stand they have gone 4-1 so far and have outscored their opponents by a 34-8 count. Last night the Cards tagged Clayton Kershaw for 8 runs in  5.2 innings of work and this offense that is very good at home (5.12 rpg) should be able to have success vs Aaron Harang in this one. Aaron has done well for LA this year with a 7-5 mark and a 3.46 ERA, but he has never pitched well in this city. In 12 career starts in St Louis, Aaron is 3-7 with a 4.74 ERA, while he is 0-4 in his teams starts with a 4.68 ERA in his last 4 trips here. Kyle Lohse has been rolling right along as he has allowed more than 2 ER's just 1 in his last 9 starts, posting a 2.02 ERA over that stretch. Kyle is 5-1 with a 2.60 ERA at home this year, including a 3-0 mark with a 2.11 ERA in his last 3 starts here. The Reds keep winning and so must the Cards if they hope to take the division crown this year. They are a much better team at home and have the better offense with the better starter on the mound. Look for St Louis to make it 2 in a row of LA tonight.
