MLB Wednesday Oakland A's at Detroit Tigers: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Wednesday night baseball and we will see the Oakland A's take on the Detroit Tigers in game 2 of their 3 game series from the Motor City. The game is scheduled for a 7:05 (ET) pm start time and it will be televised live on ESPN. Currently the ODDS have Detroit favored at -170while Oakland is dogs of +160. The total for the game sits at 7 runs. 74% of the Public is currently on Detroit, while 50% is on the OVER. Free Analysis: The Detroit Tigers have some work to do over the next two weeks if they want to reach the postseason. The Detroit Tigers still have a shot at the American League Central title, thanks to Miguel Cabrera. The All-Star slugger has ramped up his MVP campaign recently and is attempting to bring the rest of his teammates along for the ride. Cabrera homered twice and drove in six runs in Tuesday’s 12-2 shellacking of the Oakland Athletics and now has a legit shot at the triple crown. Cabrera leads the AL in batting (.333) and RBIs (129) while sitting tied for second in home runs. He has been on a tear lately, belting four homers in the last four games and hitting safely in eight straight. Still, the Tigers are three games behind the Chicago White Sox with 15 games left. If ace Justin Verlander pitches well, they have reason to be optimistic. Verlander has been up and down recently but is coming off a strong outing at Cleveland in which he struck out six in seven scoreless innings to earn the win. The reigning Cy Young and MVP has allowed six runs or more in two of his last four starts. Verlander held the A’s to one run on two hits while striking out eight in seven innings to pick up a win on May 13. He is 6-5 with a 2.56 ERA in 12 career starts against Oakland. Oakland has dropped back-to-back games after winning eight of nine. The pitching staff has been mostly to blame, serving up 21 runs in the two setbacks after allowing a total of 21 during the previous nine contests. The A’s are enduring a very difficult stretch in the schedule, with trips to face the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers coming up after Detroit. Brett Anderson (4-1, 1.93) hopes to rebound Wednesday from his worst start in five outings since returning from Tommy John surgery last month. The left-hander allowed two earned runs in 26 innings to win his first four starts of 2012 before he allowed five in a six-run seventh inning of a 6-0 loss at Los Angeles on Thursday. Despite that rough frame, A's manager Bob Melvin continues to be pleased with Anderson's progress. Anderson is 2-1 with a 2.51 ERA against the Tigers, but has not faced them since May 29, 2010, when he allowed three hits in 5 2-3 innings of a 6-0 victory at Comerica Park. Josh Reddick is batting .455 (15 for 33) in nine games versus Detroit. Detroit is 44-28 at home, while the A's are 400-32 on the road.

Free Pick: Gonna go with the home team to take game two of this series. Detroit is fighting hard for a playoff berth and it was never more evident than last night's blowout win. Miguel Cabrera is sizzling for Detroit and tonight they have their ace on the mound. Justin Verlander has had his struggles this year, but he is still 14-8 with a 2.82 ERA, while at home he sports a 7-2 mark with a skinny 1.70 ERA. Justin is just 3-2 in his last 5 starts vs the A's, but with a nice 1.95 ERA. Brett Anderson has pitched well in his 5 starts for the A's this year, as he is 4-1 with a 1.93 ERA, but he was rocked in his last start allowing 5 ER's in 6.2 innings of work at the Angels. Brett and the A's are in a bad spot here. Verlander pitches very well at home and the Detroit offense has been hot of late, averaging 6.3 rpg in their last 7 games. Look for another solid win by Detroit in this one.
