MLB Wednesday Chicago Cubs at Miami Marlins Preview Odds, Start Time, Free Pick

Miami Marlins Vs. Chicago Cubs 4/18/12: Mitch's Free MLB Baseball Pick

Wednesday night baseball and will see the Chicago Cubs take on the Miami Marlins in game the middle game of their 3 game series. The game is scheduled for an 7:10 pm start time and it will be televised live on WGN and Fox Sports Florida. Currently the odds have the Marlins favored at -130, while the Cubs are dogs of +122 . The total is sitting at 7 runs for the contest.

Free Analysis: The Chicago Cubs’ struggle continued on Tuesday as they lost a game that they were very much in late. Darwin Barney had three hits and scored a run, Starlin Castro had two hits, and Steve Clevenger had a hit and scored a run as the Cubs scored twice off of seven hits. Two errors cost Chicago dearly on Tuesday, leading to three unearned runs. Ryan Dempster gave up two of those unearned runs in a six-inning start and Rafael Dolis (0-1) took the loss, giving up three runs - two earned - in the eighth. The Cubs will turn to Matt Garza to stop their three-game slide. The right-hander came within an out of a complete game his last time out, silencing Milwaukee with 8 2/3 strong innings. The right-hander is 3-1 with a 3.90 ERA in five career starts against the Marlins. The Miami Marlins got their Manager Ozzie Guillen back for Tuesday’s game against the Cubs and they celebrated it with a win. The club suspended their first-year manager five games as a result of comments he made favoring Fidel Casto and the Marlins lost two in a row to the Phillies before taking two of three from the Astros over that span. Hanley Ramirez is heating up, and that is very good news for the Fish. Miami (5-6) is batting .275 with 19 runs during its last four home games after hitting .235 and scoring 27 times during its first eight there. Hanley Ramirez provided the tiebreaking three-run homer in a 5-2 victory Tuesday, which gave the Marlins consecutive wins at their new stadium for the first time. After 12 seasons with the White Sox, Buehrle signed with Miami in December, three months after Guillen agreed to leave Chicago and lead the Marlins. The left-hander won at least 10 games in 11 consecutive campaigns for his former club, but a lack of run support has played a large part in keeping him winless this season. Buehrle (0-2, 3.65 ERA) has been given a combined one run in his two starts, and he lost 3-1 in Philadelphia on Thursday. Two of the three runs he allowed over 6 1-3 innings came via solo homers. Buehrle will try to bounce back by winning his third consecutive decision over the Cubs (3-8). He has a 1.82 ERA over his last four starts versus Chicago and did not get a decision during last season's only matchup after allowing two runs and five hits over 5 1-3 innings. Miami is 8-3 in their last 11 games as a favorite, but 4-7 against the National League Central. Chicago is 4-12 in their last 16 games overall, but 7-1 in Garza’s last eight starts. Chicago is also 5-1 in their last six games in Miami.

Free Pick: I like the host fish in this one. Matt Garza has had a nice start to his year and he has pitched well vs Miami (3-1 with a 3.90 ERA in 5 starts), but the Fish bats are waking up as they have hit .275 with 19 runs scored during their last four games and Matt hasn't done well on the road the last few years, going 18-26 with a 4.53 ERA in his last 61 starts on the road. Mark Buehrle pitched very well in his first 2 starts as he has a 3.65 ERA in those games, but an 0-2 record. Miami should get a few more runs for him here to help him get a win in his first home starts for his new team. Mark is 5-4 with a 4.15 ERA vs the Cubs overall, but 2-0 with a 1.82 ERA in his last 4 starts vs them. The Cubs are reeling right now and that should allow this hot Miami offense to tag Garza for enough runs to get mark his first win as a member of the Fish.
