MLB Tuesday Night Detroit Tigers at Boston Red Sox: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Tuesday night baseball and we will see the Detroit Tigers take on the Boston Red Sox in game 2 of their 3 game series from Fenway Park. The game is scheduled for a 7:10 (ET) pm start time and it will be televised live locally. Currently the odds have Detroit favored at -127, while Boston is dogs of +120. The total for the game sits at 8 runs

Free Analysis: Justin Verlander seeks to rebound from a shaky outing as the Detroit Tigers visit the Boston Red Sox in Tuesday’s second contest of a three-game series. Verlander allowed five runs in seven innings while losing to the Cleveland Indians in his last appearance, matching the season-high five runs he allowed while losing to the Red Sox on May 29. Verlander (11-6, 2.60 ERA) was 6-1 with a 1.96 ERA over seven starts before Thursday's game in Cleveland, where he had allowed one run and three hits over his first six innings there. In the seventh, he was tagged for four runs and six hits, including back-to-back home runs to start off the frame. "It was a battle for me all night," Verlander told the team's website. "I didn't really feel great. I never really got in a groove and got comfortable out there, but I was able to battle and keep those guys off the board for the most part until that inning." Verlander was 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA over his previous five matchups with Boston (52-51). He gave up two hits and one walk over eight scoreless innings during Detroit's season-opening 3-2 win at Comerica Park on April 5. This time, he'll face a Boston team riding its longest win streak since a five-game run from June 16-21. The Red Sox earned their third consecutive victory in Monday's series opener as Dustin Pedroia homered and drove in three runs.  Beckett (5-9, 4.57) is slated to help the Red Sox try for another victory, but Boston has been talking with other teams about a deal for the veteran right-hander ahead of Tuesday's afternoon deadline. Should he remain in Boston, Beckett will seek his second win in 10 starts. He's allowed a combined nine runs in back-to-back defeats, including a 5-3 loss in Texas on Wednesday. Beckett is 0-3 with a 6.62 ERA in his last three starts against Detroit. Ryan Sweeney might be unavailable for this game after he "punched a door" sometime during Monday's game. He's expected to have X-rays on Tuesday. Mike Aviles is also dealing with turf toe. Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder each have hit two homers off Beckett this season. The Tigers have dropped to 2-5 on their nine-game road trip after going 13-2 over a home-heavy stretch.

Free Pick: Whether or not the Sox have Beckett tonight I like the Tigers in this one. Justin Verlander is one of the besat pitchers in baseball and he know how to bounce back from a tough outing. In his 4 starts following a game in which he has allowed 4 ER's or more he is a perfect 4-0 with a 2.22 ERA and if you include his outing the All-Star game then he has gone 5-0 with a 1.78 ERA following those tough outings. Verlander is also 2-1 with a 2.21 ERA in his last 6 starts vs the Sox. Josh Beckett has really struggled for Boston and he is 2-5 with a 4.55 ERA and he has gone 2-7 with a 5.27 ERA at night on the year. Boston is just 2-9 in his night starts. He is also 0-3 with a 6.62 ERA in his last 3 starts vs Detroit.  The Sox have played well of late, but may be without Becket and Jarod S. for this one, plus Ortiz is out and Detroit needs a big win. With or without Beckett I like Detroit in this one.
