MLB Tuesday New York Yankees at Seattle Mariners: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Hi-res-148966733_crop_exact

Tuesday night baseball and we will see the New York Yankees take on the Seattle Mariners in game 2 of their 3 game series from Seattle. The game is scheduled for a 10:05 (ET) pm start time and it will be televised live locally. Currently the odds have Seattle favored at -117, while New York is dogs of +110. The total for the game sits at 7 runs.

Free Analysis: The New York Yankees were thought to be in the market for a starting pitcher and an outfielder at the trade deadline. They went out and filled one of those holes on Monday, when they grabbed Ichiro Suzuki from the Seattle Mariners for a pair of minor league pitchers. Ichiro paid immediate dividends on Monday night, going 1-for-4 with a stolen base as the Yankees beat his old team in his old home park to snap a four-game slide. The Yankees needed the 10-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glover's help with Brett Gardner likely out for the season with an elbow injury and starting right fielder Nick Swisher dealing with an ailing hip flexor. Suzuki, who usually played in right for Seattle, is expected to switch to left field while with New York. After enduring a season-high four straight defeats, New York will try to keep heading in the right direction when it faces Hernandez (8-5, 2.82 ERA) for the second time this season. The right-hander has given up only two runs over his past 24 2-3 innings and is 4-0 with a 1.36 ERA in his last seven outings. He gave up one run and scattered eight hits over eight innings during a 6-1 victory in Kansas City on Thursday. The Yankees, though, have had Hernandez's number lately as he's 0-2 with a 7.11 ERA in the past two matchups. He gave up a season-high 11 hits and four runs over 6 2-3 innings in a 6-2 loss in New York on May 11. Hernandez will pitch opposite another former Mariner and fellow Venezuelan, Freddy Garcia (4-3, 5.37), on Tuesday. Garcia had a four-game win streak snapped with a 4-3 loss in Oakland on Thursday. He allowed four runs and nine hits in 5 2-3 innings during his first defeat since returning to the Yankees rotation July 2. The veteran right-hander is 4-0 with a 4.05 ERA in his last five starts against the Mariners (42-56) with the most recent matchup July 25, 2011. He's set to play his first game in Seattle since a 6-3 win for the Chicago White Sox on Sept. 15, 2009. In this matchup, he'll try to get some help from Robinson Cano, who is 14 for 34 (.412) in his career against Hernandez, while Mark Teixeira has five homers off the Mariners right-hander, more than any other player.

Free Pick: Im going to look to the Over in this one. Fellix Hernandez has been on a roll of late with an 0.73 ERA in his last 3 starts, but this may be the one team that can hit him around a bit. Felix has 1 start vs the Yanks this year and he allowed 4 ER's and 11 hits in 6.2 innings of work. That now gives him an 5.06 ERA in his last 4 starts vs the Yanks, with all 4 starts putting up at least 8 runs. Freddy Garcia has spent some time in the pen this year, but in his 8 starts he has made he has a 5.69 ERA, while on the road he has a 5.60 ERA, with his road starts averaging 10.8 rpg. Freddy also has allowed 3 or more ER's in 9 of his last 10 starts vs Seattle and 9 of those 10 starts have hit at least 7 runs. The Yanks have had prolems scoring of late, but the addition of Ichiro should help, plus tey have had good success vs King Fellix. I look for both teams to get at least 3 runs and give us at the very least a push in this one.
