MLB Sunday New York Yankees at Oakland A's: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Hi-res-148478153_crop_exact

Sunday afternoon baseball and we will see the New York Yankees take on the Oakland A's in game 4 of their 4 game series from Oakland. The game is scheduled for a 4:05 (ET) pm start time and it will be televised live locally. Currently the odds have New York favored at -167, while Oakland is dogs of +157. The total for the game sits at 7.5 runs.

Free Analysis: New York had scored at least three runs in a franchise-record 43 straight games before suffering a 3-2 loss to the Athletics on Friday. A 2-1 setback Saturday night made it two in a row with less than three tallies. The three-game slide has trimmed the Yankees’ lead in the AL East to seven games over the Baltimore Orioles. CC Sabathia didn't seem to miss a beat in his return from the disabled list, and New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi believes the break will help his endurance down the stretch. Sidelined for 22 days because of a left groin strain, Sabathia (10-3, 3.27 ERA) returned to the Yankees (57-37) on Tuesday against Toronto and gave up four hits in six scoreless innings of a 6-1 win. He threw 66 of 87 pitches for strikes. Before looking too far down the road, though, Girardi would first like to see Sabathia continue his recent dominance over Oakland on Sunday and help the AL East leaders avoid being swept in a four-game series by the surging Athletics for the first time in 40 years. Sabathia is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA in his last four starts against the A's (50-44). In Oakland on May 26, he gave up two runs and seven hits in seven innings of a 9-2 victory. Even if Sabathia is able to shut down Oakland's offense, the Yankees still need to get their offense in gear. New York, which had won 13 of 14 in Oakland prior to this series, has combined for six runs, 22 hits and one walk in the first three games. CC will be facing a red-hot A's team that is a major league-best 13-2 this month, and has pulled into a tie with Baltimore and Chicago for the AL's second wild card. Bartolo Colon was sharp in his first two starts coming off the DL with a strained oblique muscle, posting a 1.23 ERA, but regressed Tuesday against Texas, yielding four runs and eight hits in seven innings of a 6-1 loss. The veteran right-hander, who went 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA in 29 games for the Yankees last season, opposed Sabathia back in May, and was tagged for six runs and nine hits in six innings to get the loss. Bartolo is 1-3 with a 13.60 ERA in his last 5 starts vs the Yanks. Robinson Cano, whose 23-game hitting streak ended Saturday, hit a solo homer in the second inning of that game, and is 5 for 8 lifetime against Colon. What little offense Oakland has mustered lately has come heavily from Yoenis Cespedes, who has homered in two of the first three games of the series and is 18-for-31 (.581) since the All-Star break with four homers and nine RBIs.

Free Pick: Gonna go with the Yanks in this one. New York came into this series having won 13 of the last 14 played here and they will not want to leave Oakland on a 4 game losing streak. CC Sabathia has been on a roll, going 5-1 with a 2.59 ERA in his last 7 starts, and the Yanks are 12-4 in his 16 starts on the year. He has dominated the A's of late, going 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA in his last 4 starts vs them. On the other side we have Bartolo Colon, who is 0-2 with a 2.66 ERA in his last 4 starts, but he has really struggled in this series, going 1-3 with a 13.60 ERA in his last 5 starts vs the Bronx Bombers. The A's have won the first two games with solid pitching, but the Yanks still have the much beter offense and today they have a big pitching edge as well. Look for New York to bounce back today.
