Analysis: The Dodgers blew a 5-0 lead before prevailing 7-5 in 10 innings Friday to finish the month 10-17 after going 13-13 in April. Los Angeles drew first blood in this series on Friday, as Luis Cruz's go- ahead, RBI groundout in the Dodgers' two-run 10th lifted them to a 7-5 win. Zack Greinke tries to bounce back from a pair of rough outings on Saturday. Greinke won his first start after returning from a broken collarbone to improve to 2-0, but has yielded 11 runs (nine earned) and 19 hits over eight innings in his last two outings. The 29-year-old Orlando, Fla., native has a 1.46 WHIP and .310 batting average against. "I never get too worried about Zack. He's going to compete and get to where he needs to get to," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said after Monday's 8-7 victory over the Angels when Greinke received a no-decision. Greinke has faced the Rockies six times (5 starts) and is 1-1 with a 4.88 ERA.
The Rockies, who have lost six of their last seven games, were 12-16 in May and are 15-23 since their franchise-record 13-4 start. Colorado, which was tied for first place in the National League West on May 25, has fallen 2 1/2 games behind Arizona. Colorado 1B Todd Helton, a .319 career hitter who was struggled with a .227 average this season, delivered a two-run pinch-hit homer in the ninth inning Friday to tie the game 5-5. Jouhlys Chacin allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings in Colorado's 3-2 loss in 12 innings at Houston on Monday. The 25-year-old Venezuelan, who has pitched at least five innings in all nine turns this season, was 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA following his third straight victory - a 3-1 decision over Arizona on April 19. Chacin is 6-5 with a 3.15 ERA in 12 games (11 starts) against Los Angeles, with Andre Ethier (7-for-16, eight walks) and A.J. Ellis (6-for-12) giving him the most trouble.
Pick: Despite last night's win the Dodgers are still 3-9 in their last 12 games, while the Rockies check in at 20-7 in their last 27 games as a favorite. Zack Greinke has not looked good at all since his return from the DL, as he is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in his last 3 starts. Those starts include a road game vs lowly Milwaukee, in which he allowed 5 ER's on 9 hits in just 4 innings of work. Overall he is 0-1 with a 7.00 ERA in 2 road starts this year. Zach has pitched well in this park, but in his last 5 starts overall vs the Rockies he is 1-1 with a 5.13 ERA. Jhoulys Chacin has really had just 2 bad starts this year and in those starts he allowed 13 ER's, while in his 7 other starts this year he has allowed a combined 11 ER's, while not allowing more than 3 ER's in any of those other 7 starts. In his last start, and only start vs the Dodgers last year he allowed 7 ER's, but in his previous 7 starts vs them he allowed just 8 total ER's. For the most part he has pitched well vs them, posting a 6-5 record with a 3.15 ERA in 12 appearances (11 starts) vs them. LA is still a team in trouble and while they won last night and put up 7 runs in the process, they are still without Kemp and just won't come up with enough offense to win this one.
