Both of Michigan’s losses this season have come on the road. But, unlike playing at Rutgers, both Iowa and Wisconsin are tough places to play. Even so, John Beilein will have his team ready to go here tonight. Beilein is a great motivator for his teams and the Wolverines absolutely know the Scarlet Knights have won each of their last two games at home over Indiana and Nebraska.
Michigan is better than both of those teams, no doubt. Rutgers knows that as well and they’re looking to have a lower-scoring game here. Michigan will have no problems playing that slow-paced game as they have been very good on the defensive side of the floor this season, allowing just 57 points per game this season. They rank best in the country overall in adjusted defensive efficiency numbers on KemPom, yielding just 84 points per 100 possessions. Jon Teske is a major threat in the middle of the floor for the Wolverines, blocking better than two shots per game in addition to leading the team in rebounding. Michigan wants to muck the entire operation up for Rutgers tonight and the Scarlet Knights don’t have the scoring options to just give the ball to one guy and let him knock down shots consistently.
Michigan is more talented, but they still are battling some rotation issues and are looking for depth help from its bench. Expect a lot of guys to play tonight for Michigan, but don’t expect the defense to drop off.
