Michigan was anything but a popular pick to contend for the Legends title last season, but it nearly won the six team division with new Head Coach Brady Hoke manning the sidelines. The Wolverines, which finished second to Michigan State in the division standings with a 6-2 conference record, earned their first double-digit win season since 2006, winning 11 of 13 games, including a 23-20 victory over Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl. Hoke and company will not be sneaking up on anyone this year as the latest Michigan Wolverines 2012 Season Odds have the team favored to win the Legends Division and Big Ten Conference at 3-2 ($100 to win $150) and 2-1 odds respectively. Michigan is a 36-1 play to win the BCS National Championship.
While most books are expecting another big season from Big Blue, the Wolverines schedule may preclude them from matching last year’s 11 wins. In fact, despite the return of quarterback Denard Robinson, running back Fitzgerald Toussaint, and linebacker Kenny Demens, Michigan is presently favored to win Under 9.5 games at odds of $215 to win $100.
The Wolverines non-conference schedule features a neutral site showdown with Alabama (UM opened as a +12 dog) and a road game against Notre Dame (getting one point from the Irish). Michigan’s Big Ten slate is also fraught with danger as the team travels to Nebraska and Ohio State. Hoke’s squad is listed as a favorite in both of those games, though, giving two points to the Huskers and Buckeyes. In Michigan’s only other released game, it is listed as a -6 against the spread home favorite opposite Michigan State.
