It is far too early to call the Al Golden era at Miami a disappointment, but through two seasons it has looked quite similar to the Randy Shannon years. Many expect the program to take a positive turn this season, though, with 18 starters back from last year's 7-5 squad. The odds makers at 5Dimes are favoring Miami, at -150 odds, to win Over. 8.5 games, something the Hurricanes have done only once in the past seven years, and it is also favored to win the ACC's Coastal Division at +250 odds ($100 wins $250). And, according to the offshore bookmaker's 2014 BCS Title Odds, the Hurricanes are even an outside threat to win the National Championship at +4300 odds (only 13 schools are listed ahead of them).
Miami does have a somewhat difficult schedule this season, but it is a manageable one nonetheless. Meetings with Florida, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Florida State, and Virginia Tech will go a long way toward determining what kind of year it is going to be in South Florida. If the Golden Nugget is correct, the Hurricanes are probably looking at 2-3 run against those teams. Miami is lined as a dog against the Gators, Tar Heels, and Seminoles in the Vegas based bookmaker's early release College Football Games of the Year.
