The Memphis Tigers and Connecticut Huskies will meet on the gridiron today in their final games of the season. The game is scheduled for a noon start time and it will be televised live on ESPN3. Currently the odds for the game are pretty much listed as a pick.
Neither one of these teams are any good. Hopefully their fan bases will enjoy them playing in their final game of the season. The teams are a combined 3-11 in the American Athletic Conference, but someone will be getting a victory in this game today. It's certainly not the sexiest game on the board.
Connecticut has won two games in a row, beating Temple and Rutgers by scoring 28 points in each game. Both of those were their highest scoring games of the season. The Huskies are building up some type of potential heading into next season, where they'll have a new coach and a new opportunity to get this program headed in the right diretion.
Memphis has three victories this season but hasn't won in several weeks. And they haven't beaten the best teams in the league, either, only topping South Florida in the AAC this season. Memphis also has wins over Arkansas State and UT-Martin this year.
Of the two teams, you could argue that Memphis has played better from the opening week of the season. Middle Tennessee, Arkansas State, Central Florida and Houston all were held under 200 yards offensively. They only gave up 342 yards to Louisville, who averaged more than 450 yards per game on average. The Cardinals beat Memphis by a touchdown only.
Connecticut opened 0-9, but a victory here would have them winning their final three games. The Husky defense played very in the second half last week where they were able to hold Temple off the score board.
Memphis has only allowed 14 touchdown passes this season but Connecticut has only thrown 12 TD passes. Casey Cochran should get the start for the Huskies at QB and he has played well enough to help the team win. Will he continue to be able to win for UConn?
It's Senior Day for the Huskies and they seem to be the team playing better football at this point. The line indicates oddsmakers aren't willing to put either team as the favorite here, so we'll go with Connecticut in this pick 'em game.
