The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs meet up today in the second game of their series in Major League Baseball. The game is scheduled for a 2:20 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on MLB.tv from Chicago. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Cardinals listed as a small favorite to get the win in this one.
The Cardinals picked up a win on Sunday Night Baseball over the Cubs the other day in the season opener. Monday saw a day off between the clubs and yesterday's game was rained out in soaked Chicago, which could be another occurrence again today. It's wet in the Midwest and Chicago looks to be getting more rain again today.
But if the game is being played, we have a solid matchup between Lance Lynn and Jake Arrieta. Both guys could be in line for a solid outing today, especially if the weather continues to be a problem.
Lynn will look to continue to keep the Cubs off-balanced and he's been very consistent the past few seasons, winning 48 games over the last three campaigns. Chicago finished the opener going 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position. The Cubs also went down with 12 strikeouts in the game, despite starting the opening three innings with the leadoff runner at second base.
St. Louis has won five of the last seven games overall against the Cubs. Arrieta, who had a good season last year with 10 wins and a 2.53 ERA, will look to continue his success against the Cardinals. He's picked up two wins compared to no losses in his last five starts against St. Louis while striking out 35 hitters in less than 30 innings. Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday have not been good against Arrieta in their careers, posting an 0-for-23 combined mark.
Lynn and Arrieta could make for a quick game and this one could have just a few runs scored. If the weather holds up it'll be a nice afternoon matinee game to take in, with St. Louis once again finding a way to get it done.
