Major League Baseball Odds --- Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays

Sunday baseball and we will see the Boston Red Sox take on the Tampa Bay Rays in game 3 of their 3 game series from Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida. First pitch is scheduled for a 1:40 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on MLB Network.

Current Odds

Boston           +105
Tampa Bay     -125

Over/ Under: 7.5 O -115

Stat Packs: Boston is struggling, as they come in having lost 9 in row and currently stand at 20-28 on the year, which has them in last place in the AL East. Offensively this team has really struggled, as they come in ranked just 19th in scoring (3.94), 23rd in hitting (.243) and 21st in homers (37). This is a team that is used to being the top 5 in offense year in and year out. Not this year though. The pitching for the Sox has been very average at best, as they come in ranked 16th in the league in ERA (3.90) and 22nd in WHIP (1.38). They are 9th in Ks (386) and 6th in quality starts (28), so all is not bad for the staff. Brandon Workman will be getting the ball for Boston and they will be his 1 start of the year and just his 4th of his career. In his other 3 starts he went 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA. That 1 loss was vs these Rays, in a game in which he allowed just 2 ER's in 7 innings of work.

The Rays come in a disappointing 22-28 on the year, while also going just 11-14 at home, but they have taken the first 2 in this series from Boston. Like Boston, they are searching for some offense, as they come in ranked 25th in scoring (3.82 rpg), 21st in hitting (.245) and 24th in homers (36). The pitching has also been suspect for them as they come in ranked 19th in ERA (3.96) and 18th in WHIP (1.33). Jake Odorizzi gets the ball today and he comes in with a 2-4 mark and a 4.98 ERA on the year, to go along with a 1.59 WHIP. He has pitched better of late, with a 1-1 mark and a 1.72 ERA in his last 3 starts. Jake faced the Sox once last year and allowed 1 ER in 5.2 innings of work. The Rays are just 2-7 when he has started this year.

Pick:  Gonna go with the Sox to avoid the sweep here. Just can't see the Sox losing 10 in a row either. Brandon Workman has made 3 starts in his career and all three have been solid and I feel he will have enough to keep this inconsistent offense down in this one. Jake Odorizzi is pitching well right now, but Big Papi will be in the lineup for this one and that should give the Sox offense a boost. Yesterday Boston blew a 5-0 1st inning lead and lost the game on an error in the 15th inning. Today they get it back and snap their 10 game losing streak.
