The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers open their four-game series tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Tigers favored to pick up the win at home.

Detroit owns the best record in baseball at 10-2 to open the season. There was a lot of talk about the Tigers' bullpen being a cause for concern during the off-season as well, but overall the team has a 2.61 ERA for all pitchers combined through their 12 games. The pitching has really helped Detroit get to this point in the season, but the offense is great as well.

The Tigers have scored the second-most runs in the league behind Toronto, they're third in the league in hits and second-best in team average at .305 so far this season. The lineup is loaded with solid hitters and Detroit has gotten great contributions from some of their unsung heroes as well, Jose Iglesias is second in the league with a .436 average while J.D. Martinez already has five home runs.

New York starter CC Sabathia (0-2, 5.68) has not had a good season despite walking only one hitter in his two starts. Tonight he faces a Tigers lineup that hits left-handed pitching well at .296 for the year. Current Tigers are hitting just .226 against Sabathia in 146 career at bats, with Victor Martinez, Miguel Cabrera and Ian Kinsler all having two home runs against him. Cabrera owns a .345 average against him in 29 at bats.

Starting for the Tigers tonight is Alfredo Simon. He's 0-3 with a 5.57 ERA in his four career starts against the Yankees in his career. Current pinstripe players have a .297 lifetime average against Simon in 64 at bats. Both Carlos Beltran and Mark Teixeira have hit home runs off him.

Tonight, Detroit continues the hot start. Simon's career numbers against New York aren't great, but tonight he will get some run support from the lineup as the Tigers beat up on CC, provided the weather holds off and the game is played.
