The Baltimore Orioles welcome in the New York Mets tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start time and it will be televised live in both markets. Currently the odds for the game have the Mets favored to pick up the win on the road.
The Mets come in having lost three straight, most recently getting swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Despite the recent skid, though, the Mets have held firm their lead in the National League East over the Washington Nationals, who might be the most disappointing team in all of baseball this season. The Mets are taking advantage of that and with their pitching staff could run away with the division.
Tonight they take on a Baltimore team that has won four straight overall. The Orioles just swept Oakland and have taken over the second Wild Card spot in the American League.
The Mets will send Jacob deGrom to the mound tonight. He's 11-6 with a 2.03 ERA this season, pitching like his hair is on fire and helping the Mets take over first place. deGrom has really pitched well in home starts this season, but also has very impressive numbers on the road. His road record is 5-4 with a 2.70 ERA while opponents are hitting just .191 in 66 2/3 innings. Current Orioles are hitting .160 against him in 25 at bats with Manny Machado having the only real success with two hits in three at bats.
Kevin Gausman will throw tonight for the Orioles. The youngster is 2-4 on the year with a 4.48 ERA in eight starts, but 16 total appearances. Gausman has great numbers at home this season, especially his 1.50 ERA in 24 total innings. He's made three starts there and in the 24 innings allowed just four earned runs while striking out 20.
Current Mets are hitting .167 against him in 18 at bats. Yoenis Cespedes has homered and is the only player to collect a base hit against Gausman, he's got three total hits in nine plate appearances.
deGrom will look to pitch the Mets out of a slump here tonight, but Baltimore is playing well right now. The Orioles have been very good in home games this season, the Mets on the other hand are atrocious on the road.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
