The Kansas City Royals welcome in the Detroit Tigers tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the MLB Network. Currently the odds have the Royals listed as a big favorite to pick up the win.
Kansas City got an amazing start from Johnny Cueto last night, to no surprise. It was his first start at home for the Royals and Cueto dominated the Tigers, allowing just four hits while striking out eight in a complete game shutout, the first by a KC pitcher this season. Tonight the Royals give the baseball to Yordano Ventura, who is 6-7 with a 5.29 ERA and was about to be sent down until Jason Vargas' injury.
Ventura is allowing the Tigers to hit .343 against him in 67 plate appearances, Victor Martinez has had the most success with two home runs, on four hits, in eight at bats. Martinez had been swinging a better bat since the All-Star break but has just six hits in 36 at bats in August (.167), but three of those hits were home runs. For the year Martinez has hit the ball better on the road as well, but he crushes lefties and has hit poorly against right handers all year.
The Tigers will throw Anibal Sanchez, a 10-9 starter with an unusually high 4.82 ERA this year. Sanchez had been solid for four straight starts last month, but in two starts in August he's given up 10 combined earned runs. He recently threw six innings against Kansas City at Comerica Park, yielding four earned runs and striking out six while not factoring into the decision.
Current Royals are hitting .214 against Sanchez in his career, a span of 257 at bats. Both Drew Butera and Alcides Escobar have hit home runs off of Sanchez. Eric Hosmer has collected nine hits in 31 at bats, Omar Infante has seven hits in 33 plate appearances as well. The Royals as a team have been solid offensively all season at home, hitting .280 in Kansas City. That should bode well with Sanchez and his struggles on the road. In eight starts he has five losses and opponents are hitting .272 against him.
The Tigers have been too inconsistent all season and the Royals are just better. They continue to stay hot tonight and pick up another win.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
