The New York Yankees will look to remain hot tonight when they take on the Boston Red Sox. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Yankees listed as a big favorite to pick up the win at home.
Luis Severino gets his Major League debut tonight for the Yankees. He's supposed to be the best Yankees pitching prospect in some time and New York held onto him through the trade deadline when many teams probably asked for him in return. Tonight he gets a chance to show the Yankee fanbase just how good he can be and surely he'll be pitching under some pressure.
But the best way for a youngster to get into the thick of a push for the post season is to have a great offense as well. The Yankees have been beating the baseball up lately, averaging almost 10 runs per game over their last seven, including just two runs in a pair of games.
New York has put up 25 runs the last two nights combined, tonight they take on Steven Wright, who just put together a very solid start against the White Sox, throwing seven innings and allowing just two earned runs in a win where he struck out eight.
Wright has been able to hold the Yankee hitters down in 32 career plate appearances, allowing them to hit just .188. Mark Teixeira has hit a home run in two at bats, Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann have both doubled as well. He picked up the win over the Yankees in a matchup earlier this season in the Bronx, tossing five innings while walking three.
If Wright can cool off the Yankees bats, the Red Sox might be able to score enough runs off the rookie to keep this close. Severino looks like a can't-miss prospect, though. If he feels comfortable tonight, he'll pitch the Yankees to a win.
