The Northern Illinois Huskies will take aim at a third consecutive league title this season, and if the latest LVH Odds to Win 2013 MAC Championship are correct, they will succeed in their endeavor. Northern Illinois is a 3 to 2 favorite ($100 wins $150) to win the league title this season, but it could have some competition from Bowling Green. The Falcons are a second choice to win the MAC at 11 to 4 odds. Last year's East Division winner and conference runner-up, Kent State, is being viewed as a long shot this season with a 25 to 1 listing.
Northern Illinois did the unthinkable last season, earning a BCS Bowl appearance after opening the season with a 17-18 setback at Iowa. Following their loss to the Hawkeyes, the Huskies reeled off 12 straight wins, helping secure their spot in the Orange Bowl opposite Florida State.
Northern Illinois lost head coach Dave Doeren to North Carolina State before its postseason meeting with the Seminoles; he will be replaced by former offensive coordinator Rod Carey, who served as the team's interim coach for the Orange Bowl. Carey inherits a talented group as 12 starters, including highly regarded quarterback Jordan Lynch, and 55 lettermen return to DeKalb.
Bowling Green, which finished second in the MAC's East Division last year with a 6-2 conference record, is expected to meet UNI in the league title game this season. The Falcons bring back ample amounts of experience from last season's 8-5 team as 19 starters and 50 lettermen are back with the program.
