Louisville Cardinals finished atop the Big East standings last year with a 10-2 record and 5-2 league mark. Charlie Strong’s troops capped off the stellar season with a major bowl upset as they defeated No. 4 Florida 33-23 in the Sugar Bowl, despite being lined as a 14 point dog. Louisville is expected to make even more noise this season with 16 starters, including Heisman Trophy candidate Teddy Bridgewater, and 53 lettermen returning to the team. Louisville’s biggest issue this season could be its soft schedule. While there are some quality teams in the AAC (i.e. Central Florida, Cincinnati), few are good enough right now to garner more than a cursory glance from the national pundits. In other words, the perception of the conference as a whole could hurt the Cardinals come bowl season.
