The 2012 Little Caesars Bowl will feature a matchup between the Central Michigan Chippewas and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The game will take place on Wednesday December 26th and will be televised live at 7:30 pm on ESPN.Currently the odds for the game have Western Kentucky favored by 6 points, while the total sits at 58.5.
A record seven MAC teams are headed to bowl games this year, including the 6-6 Central Michigan Chippewas. With a win, the Chippewas could even their Pizza Bowl record at 2-2 and send off their seniors on a high note. Guys like Cody Wilson, Mike Repovz and Jahleel Addae would probably appreciate that. A player to watch for the Chippewas is Zurlon Tipton, who was one of the most complete running backs in the MAC this year, rushing for 1,391 yards (fourth in MAC) and a league-leading 19 touchdowns. He's the guy the Hilltoppers want to center around. One blown tackle could result in a big play—and Tipton has had his share.
Western Kentucky went 0-12 in 2009, but its ascent has been quick since then. The Hilltoppers were 7-1 in Sun Belt play a season ago, but did not get a bowl invite. The Sun Belt Conference team received an invite from the Pizza Bowl, which has ties with the Big Ten and Mid-American conferences. With Ohio State and Penn State ineligible, postseason options from the Big Ten were limited this year. Western Kentucky made it into a bowl over Middle Tennessee, another Sun Belt team that went 8-4 and beat the Hilltoppers 34-29. This is Western Kentucky's fourth season in the Football Bowl Subdivision and would like nothing more than winning their fist ever FBS bowl game. Key player for the Hilltoppers is Antonio Andrews, who was a tremendous asset to his team, rushing for 1,609 yards and 21 touchdowns. He can return kicks, punts and basically handle any duties thrown his way.
Central Michigan Stat Rankings--- The Chipps are 68th in total offense, 53rd in passing, 76th in rushing and 65th in scoring (29.2 ppg). On defense they are 95th overall, 77th vs the pass, 98th vs the run and 99th in points allowed (33.3 ppg).
Western Kentucky Stat Rankings--- The Hilltoppers are 73rd in total offense, 93rd in passing, 41st in rushing and 68th in points scored (28.8 ppg). On defense WKU is 23rd overall, 31st vs the pass, 32nd vs the run and 51st in points allowed (25.6 ppg).
