The Nevada Wolf Pack and Arizona Wildcats will open the 2012-2013 college bowl season tomorrow when they square off in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl at University Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The postseason clash between the two schools is scheduled to get underway at 1:00pm ET on ESPN. Gildan New Mexico Bowl Preview odds are favoring Arizona at -9.5 against the spread; the game total is set at 77 points. Nevada is drawing +315 moneyline odds to win just its second bowl game in the last six years.
Nevada’s season began with great promise, but the team’s late fade has many wondering if it has the chops to deal with Arizona and its high powered offensive attack tomorrow afternoon.
The Wolf Pack beat up on several losing teams early on, but San Diego State, Air Force, Fresno State, and Boise State all beat Chris Ault’s crew and they averaged nearly 42 points per game in doing so.
Rich Rodriguez had an up and down first year at Arizona, but the team did make strides, improving upon last season’s four wins thanks to an offense that averaged over 37 points and 521 yards per game.
The Wildcats, who scored 48 or more points in five of their 12 regular season games, should have their way with Nevada’s porous defense (95th in points per game allowed and 89th in yards per game allowed) tomorrow. Nevada should find itself well acquainted with the end zone as well, though.
Arizona’s defense ranks even worse than Nevada’s crew, coming in 103rd and 120th in points and yards per game allowed, respectively.
