Georgia Bulldogs vs Nebraska Cornhuskers: Capital One Bowl Odds

The 67th annual Capital One Bowl will take place in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday, January 1st with a start time of 1:00 PM (Eastern). The game will pit the Georgia Bulldogs vs the Nebraska Cornhusers and will be televised live on ABC. Currently the odds for the game have Georgia favored by 10 points, while the total sits at 60.

Most teams would be ecstatic to be playing in the Capital One Bowl, but things could have been quite different for both of these teams this bowl season. Had Georgia been better with clock management, they may have been able to have pulled off a major upset and defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship on the way to facing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the BCS Championship. But that did not happen, forcing Georgia out of BCS Bowl contention altogether, due to the insane stipulation that no more than two teams from one conference can play in a BCS Bowl in one postseason.  The Bulldogs were led by quarterback Aaron Murray, who threw for 31 touchdowns this season. Behind a great season from running back Todd Gurley, the Bulldogs ranked 18th in the country in points scored per game. But, showing that this is one of the most balanced and complete teams in the country, the Bulldogs also ranked 17th in scoring defense.

As for Nebraska, they were a win away from playing in a BCS Bowl as well, but they were blown out in the Big 10 Championship against the Wisconsin Badgers, costing them a chance to play in this year’s Rose Bowl against the Stanford Cardinal. Nebraska was chastised for failing miserably against Ohio State, and the fact that it was one of the better teams in the Big Ten only made the Big Ten look all the more weak this season -- which it was, so it didn't really matter what Nebraska did in the Big Ten title game because it was surely bound for a bowl loss. Nebraska was embarrassed by Montee Ball and the Wisconsin Badgers, 70-31, in the Big Ten title game in Indianapolis. Outside of Ohio State’s 63-point fiasco, Nebraska’s defense played decently up until the Big Ten Championship game against Wisconsin. However, the Badgers rolled up 539 total yards rushing and 640 total yards of offense. Nebraska’s run defense ranks 96th in the country, and they’ll need to play their best game against Georgia’s balanced offense.

Georgia Stat Rankings--- Georgia comes in ranked 27th in total offense, 34th in passing, 42nd in rushing and 18th in scoring (37.2 ppg). On defense the Dawgs are 27th overall, 8th vs the pass, 81st vs the run and 17th in points allowed (18.8 ppg).

Nebraska Stat Rankings--- The Cornhuskers are 24th in total offense, 91st in passing offense, 8th in rushing and 29th in scoring (35.1 ppg). On defense Nebraska is 22nd overall, 1st vs the pass, 96th vs the run and 56th in points allowed (26.2 ppg).
