Friday night NBA and I will have a Free Pick in the game between the Detroit Pistons and the Chicago Bulls, which will take place at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The game has a start time of 8:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised locally. Current Vegas betting odds have the Bulls listed as 9 point favorites, while the total is set at 196.
Analysis: The Detroit Pistons will probably not be in the playoffs this year, but they have played well of late as they have won 5 of their last 7 games, including a 10 point home win over Atlanta on Tuesday night. they do come off a horrid 102-78 road loss to the Hornets, which now puts them at 29-46 on the year overall and 13-25 on the road. Detroit has gone 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games following a ATS loss, while the dog is 8-2 the last 10 in the series. The Pistons have not been a great offensive team this year, ranking 20th in scoring (98.2 ppg), 28th in shooting, 24th in 3 point shooting and 29th in FT shooting. Defensively the Pistons have been average this year, ranking 15th in points allowed (99.7 ppg), 24th in defensive FG% and 20th in 3 point defense.
The Chicago Bulls have lost their lead in the division to Cleveland and they fell a little further behind after taking a tough 95-91 road loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Chicago is now 3 games behind Cleveland in the Central Division with a 45-30 record overall, which includes a 24-14 mark at home. Chicago has gone 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a losing road record, but just 7-15 ATS in their last 22 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. The Bulls have been a decent offensive team this year, ranking 13th in scoring (101.0 ppg), 20th in shooting, 10th in 3 point shooting and 3rd in FT shooting. Defensively the Bulls have been solid, ranking 11th in points allowed (98.4 ppg), 6th in defensive FG% and 4th in 3 point defense.
Pick: I will go with the Pistons here. Detroit is not playing all that bad and their bad road loss to Charlotte could be written off as a letdown game as they had just come off a big 10 point win over Atlanta. The Pistons have played well vs Chicago this year and has taken the last 2 played by 9 and 16 points. Detroit has struggled on the road, but this still isn't a very good Chicago team and I see the Pistons being able to keep the game close.
