The Washington Huskies are in Berkeley, California tonight for a showdown with their Pac-12 North rival, Cal. The Golden Bears are 2-2 since their horrific start, but they are 0-2 in their last two games, losing to Stanford at home and Utah on the road.
Despite their track record and the absence of top play maker Keenan Allen (wide receiver leads team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns), the Bears are getting some love here for two reasons: a signature home win over UCLA (43-17 on October 6th) and the Huskies inability to win on the road (0-3 LSU, Oregon, Arizona).
Washington is also coming off a huge 20-17 home win over a previously undefeated Oregon State team, but it needed four Beavers turnovers to secure the narrow victory. While an important win, the Huskies needed to put it in the rear view mirror quickly with a road trip on short rest on the docket, but given their track record this season, it seems doubtful they did what was necessary to adequately prepare for tonight’s game.
Washington has secured back to back wins just one time this season and both of those came at home where it enjoys a nice advantage.
