College Football Stanford Cardinal vs Arizona State Sun Devils Odds, Start Time Free Pick

Saturday college football and we will see the Stanford Cardinal take on the Arizona State Sun Devils at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The game has a start time of 10:30 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN. Current Vegas odds have the Cardinal listed as 3.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 54.

Analysis:  Stanford comes in at 4-2 on the year, with losses to USC at home and Notre Dame on the road. After the Notre dame loss, the Cardinal did bounce back with a 43-17 win over Washington State last week. The Cardinal is 25-11-1 in their last 37 conference games and they are also 90=-0 ATS in their last 9 games before playing Oregon State. Kevin Hogan is asked to much more than just manage the team and he has done that well, completing 65.5% of his passes for 1325 yards with 11 TDs and 4 INTs. He leads a rather weak offense that ranks 84th in total yards, 61st in passing, 85th in rushing, and 90th in scoring (26.3 ppg). The Offense isn’t asked to do a whole lot because of a defense that ranked 2nd in yards allowed, 4th vs the pass, 10th vs the run and 1st in points allowed (10 ppg).

The Arizona State Sun Devils come in at 4-1 on the year, with that lone loss being a 62-27 home loss to the Bruins 3 weeks ago. Last week the Sun Devils had a bye, but prior to that they did bounce back with a huge win over USC on the road, in which Jalen Strong hauled in a Hail Mary pass on the last play of the game. Mike Bercovici has taken over at QB for the injured Taylor Kelly and has done a fine job, hitting 60% of his passes for 1077 yards with 9 TDs and 2 INTs so far this year. In his 2 starts he has thrown for 998 yards with 8 TDs and 2 INTs. He is a star in the making and leads an offense that is 7th overall, 9th in passing, 29th in rushing and 14th in scoring (41.2 ppg). The defense is where this team has some issues as they are ranked 102nd in yards allowed, 77th vs the pass, 104th vs the run and 91st in points allowed (31.4 ppg.

Pick: Last week the Stanford defense kept a high powered Washington State offense in check as they allowed just 266 yards and 17 points in the game. The Cardinal have now allowed just 238 ypg (2nd in nation) and 10 ppg (1st in nation), and have yet to allow more than 17 points in a game thus far. Arizona State averages 41.2 ypg, but have yet to face a defense close to the one they are facing tonight. They did put 38 on USC last week, but we have seen that the USC defense is not as good as thought to be entering the year. The Sun Devil defense is very bad, but Stanford does run a conservative ball control offense, which will keep the clock rolling and keep that high powered ASU offense on the sideline where they can't do any damage. The Under is 11-1 in Stanford's last 12 games vs a team with a winning record and 6-1 in their last 7 road games. Both trend should continue here as this one is played in the 40's.
