Final and Penultimate Pairings Set the Stage for a Historic US Open Showdown

Final and Penultimate Pairings Set the Stage for a Historic US Open Showdown

As we move into the last day of the 123rd U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, all eyes are set on the final and penultimate pairings that will take center stage. As the major is poised for a thrilling finish, the betting world is abuzz with odds, predictions, and potential payouts. With a handful of golfers within striking distance of the lead, the stakes have never been higher.

The Final Pairing: Rickie Fowler and Wyndham Clark

Wyndham Clark, the 32nd-ranked player in the world, and Rickie Fowler, known for his style and skill on the course, will be the final pairing of the day. Fowler's unshakeable performance over the past three rounds has put him in an enviable position to claim his elusive first major, and Clark, fresh off his first PGA Tour victory last month, is eager to add another trophy to his cabinet. Their current odds stand at +260 for Fowler and +300 for Clark, offering lucrative returns for the brave bettors backing these players. Interestingly, the pre-tournament odds saw Fowler at +4500, the 23rd-best odds in the field, while Clark was an even more distant +6000, showcasing how significantly they've outperformed expectations.

The Penultimate Pairing: Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler

Not far behind, the penultimate pairing features Rory McIlroy, the No. 3 player in the world, and Scottie Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion and world No. 1. McIlroy, just one stroke behind the leaders, stands a solid chance of ending his nearly nine-year drought without a major championship victory. The Northern Irishman is the betting favorite going into the final round at +220 odds. Scheffler, four strokes back but undeniably a dangerous contender, stands at +450. In the pre-tournament odds, Scheffler was the favorite at +600, while McIlroy was the fourth favorite at +1200, indicating that the golfing world's faith in these players is not unfounded.

The Stakes

Given the unpredictable nature of golf and the pressure of the final round in a major tournament, any of these four players could emerge as the U.S. Open champion. The stakes are particularly high for Fowler, who is still seeking his first major victory, and for McIlroy, who aims to break a long dry spell in major championships.  McIlroy last won a major in 2014, taking home the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.  The odds for Rory to claim his 9th top-5 finish during his 32 Major Tournament dry spell stand at -650.

The Dark Horses

However, golf bettors shouldn't overlook the dark horses lurking in the pack. Among them, Harris English (-6), Dustin Johnson (-5), and Xander Schauffele (-5) are each priced at 35/1 to win the tournament at DraftKings sportsbook, each within five strokes of the leaders. With a little luck and a lot of skill, any of these golfers could seize the moment and surge to the top of the leaderboard.

No matter how the final round unfolds, it is certain to be a day filled with excitement, tension, and world-class golf. Bettors and golf fans alike will be waiting with bated breath to see who will come out on top in this historic U.S. Open showdown.
