Duke's improbable bid to win the ACC's Coastal Division continues tomorrow afternoon when it faces Wake Forest at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem. Saturday's clash between the Blue Devils and Demon Deacons is scheduled to kickoff at 12:00pm ET on ESPN2. The latest ACC College Football Odds have Duke listed as a -6 against the spread and -225 money line favorite ($225 wins $100); the Over/Under is set at 49.5 points.
Duke extended its winning streak to six games last weekend by scoring a huge upset win over the reeling Miami Hurricanes. The Blue Devils downed Al Golden's crew 48-30 in Durham after posting 27 first downs and 543 total yards.
The victory improved Duke's record to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in league play and moved it into first place in the ACC's Coastal Division.
While the Blue Devils control their own destiny, their position is still somewhat precarious. Should Duke lose one of its final two games, Georgia Tech, which defeated the Devils 38-14 on September 14th, would assume first place in the division standings.
Duke is favored against the Demon Deacons and it will probably be favored in its season finale at North Carolina, but neither team is a pushover. Wake Forest is an ugly 2-5 in ACC action, but it has made things interesting against a number of league foes.
Clemson and Florida State both took it to the Deacons, besting them by an average of 52.5 points per game, but Jim Grobe's troops kept things fairly close in road meetings with Boston College, Miami, and Syracuse and they beat North Carolina State and Maryland handily in Winston-Salem.
The Blue Devils, who are in a big letdown spot, will need to be on guard because Wake Forest is just the kind of team that could spoil their dream season.
Series Notes and Trends: Duke snapped a 12 game losing streak to Wake Forest in 2012, beating the Demon Deacons 34-27 in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest is 5-2 straight up and 6-1 against the spread in its last seven games as a home dog with a spread between 4 and 7.5 points.
