Danzig Moon Preakness Stakes Odds Prediction

Saturday May 16th and it's time for the second leg of the Triple Crown, which is known as the Preakness Stakes. The Preakness Stakes official start time is 6:24 pm ET and will take place at Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore, Maryland. There are several Longshots in the event, including Danzig Moon, who has been installed as 15/1 Odds to win the Preakness.

Danzig Moon's Record: 1-2-0 in 6 Races. Trainer: Mark Casse. Jockey: Julien Leparoux. Sire: Malibu Moon. Dam: Leavemeinthedust. Best Beyer Speed: 95

Riding Danzig Moon will be Julien Leparoux, who came to the U.S. from France in 2003 and has compiled 2072 career wins, including 45 this year. In 2006, Leparoux led all jockeys with 403 wins and $12,491,316 in purses, both records for “bug” riders, earning him the Eclipse Award as top apprentice. Julien had a 2nd place finish in the Preakness in 2008 and two 3rd place finishes in the Belmont Stakes, but has yet to win a Triple Crown race.

Danzing Moon has drawn the 7th slot at the game and is trained by Mark Casse, who has 1824 wins in his career, including 41 this year. He has won the Sovereign Award 7 times as Canada's Most Outstanding Trainer. Casse started his first Preakness horse last year in Dynamic Impact, who finished seventh.  Casse became hooked on racing at age 12 when he rode in a horse van on the way to watch Secretariat win the 1973 Kentucky Derby.

Danzig Moon ran a respectable race in the Ketucky Derby but ended up 8 lengths behind American Pharoah in 5th place. In the race you never had a feeling he was going to win it, but he did run consistently and never fell behind 6th place in the race. Still with a short field in this year’s Preakness he has a chance to crack the top three should any of the favorites have an off day.

Movie The Preakness is Beatable and Bettable--Buy/Sell?
Teddy Covers and Steve Fezzik, professional bettors, discuss whether or not casual horse handicappers can win betting the Triple Crown races like the upcoming Preakness. Fezzik sees some value in betting the horse to horse individual match-ups, but doesn't think it is worth betting on the race as a whole. Teddy Covers takes some advice from Pregame's horse racing capper JR O'Donnell who pointed out that every time trainer Bob Baffret takes a Derby-winning horse to Preakness he wins, which is exactly what he is doing with his contender, the favorite American Pharoah.
