The Appalachian State Mountaineers are on the road in college football action on Wednesday, heading south to take on the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns in Sun Belt college football. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. The college football odds for the game have the Mountaineers favored by double digits to pick up the win.

Sun Belt games during the middle of the week are certainly entertaining. Even in this case, where we have a couple of teams that aren’t very good taking to the field in what could be a higher-scoring game than expected.

Louisiana-Lafayette is coming off a pair of road losses to Tulane and New Mexico State, not exactly great football teams. It’s just another indication how hard it is to win in the conference on the road. The Ragin’ Cajuns other loss on the season came in the opener against Boise State in blowout fashion.

Anthony Jennings can make the big play for Louisiana Lafayette, but he’s turning it over too much as well with six interceptions. Elijah McGuire gives them a nice option coming out of the backfield averaging 5.2 yards per carry.

Appalachian State played (and should have beaten) Tennessee to open the season and since have beaten the three teams on their schedule they should have beat. The lone other loss came at home against Miami in a groundbreaking matchup where the Hurricanes went to App State, which is something we don’t see a lot.

Jlin Moore and Marcus Cox are both a couple of big-play guys for the Mountaineers, they are both averaging at least five yards a carry and give them some nice options. Taylor Lamb at the quarterback spot has played well in spots for the Mountaineers and needs another solid game here.

The Mountaineers are favored by double digits, but the total is low at just 48.5 points. The Ragin’ Cajuns could benefit from that, and being at home, even if they are coming off two straight road defeats.
