Rutgers will look to stay atop the Big East today when it meets Syracuse at High Point Solutions Stadium in New Brunswick, New Jersey (12:00pm ET start time, Big East Network). College Football Saturday odds are favoring the Scarlet Knights at -7.5 against the spread while the game total is set at 45 points. The Orange are listed as a +250 moneyline play ($100 wins $250) to win their second conference game of the season.

Rutgers kept it perfect record intact last weekend, defeating Connecticut to improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in league play. The win, which left the Scarlet Knights alone atop the Big East standings, marked Rutgers third consecutive cover and its seventh cover in its last 10 games.

The Scarlet Knights recent history against the Orange says they will notch their sixth win of the season later today. Rutgers is 6-2 both straight up and against the spread in its last eight meetings with its Big East rival.

Syracuse, while no longer the doormat it was during the Greg Robinson years, is still, in some respects, trying crawl out of the ditch Robinson drove it into. On a positive note, though, the Orange have won two of their last three games, including a 14-13 win over Pittsburgh at the Carrier Dome last Friday.

Syracuse has also held up fairly well against a reasonably difficult early slate, one which featured teams like Northwestern, USC, and an improved Minnesota squad.

Despite those encouraging signs, the Orange will have difficulty getting over the hump against Rutgers. Syracuse has moved the ball well this season, averaging over 450 yards per game, but its ability to put the ball in the end zone is lacking (24.4 points per game). It will probably have trouble doing both against a Scarlet Knight defense that is allowing just 297 yards and 10.4 points per game.
