College Football Saturday Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs UL Laffayette Ragin Cajuns

Saturday night College Football and we will see the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs take on the UL Lafayette Ragin Cajuns at Cajun Field in Lafayette, Louisiana. The game has a start time of 7:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN 3. Current Vegas odds have the Ragin Cajuns listed as 15 point favorites, while the total is set at 57.5.

Analysis: The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs went from 9-3 in 2012 to just 4-8 last year, in what was Skip Holtz first season as HC of the Bulldogs. In fairness, the Bulldogs did have just 7 total starters back last year and now with 13 starters back this year they look to take a step back in the right direction. Getting off to a good start is not easy when you’re facing the Oklahoma Sooners. Louisiana Tech did just that and took it on the chin by a 48-16 count. They did get a backdoor cover in the game with a late TD. The Bulldogs struggled on offense last year and did so out the gate here, although they were missing two WR in the game (Both will miss this one as well). The Bulldogs were able to muster just 245 yards in the game, including just 191 through the air and 54 on the ground. The defense wasn’t great, but did have a couple of positives as they held Trevor Knight to just 55% passing and the Sooners just 38% on third downs.

The Lafayette Ragin Cajuns had a solid 9-4 season last year and finished the season with a 24-21 win over Tulane in the New Orleans Bowl. Now this team is loaded again with 61 lettermen, including 17 starters back this year. No wonder they are the favorites to win the Sun Belt and such big favorites in this game. The Ragin Cajuns got off to a fine start this year with a 45-6 win over FCS foe Southern. Offensively Lafayette was very balanced as they put up 248 yards on the ground and 264 yards through the air. QB Terrance Broadway had a very nice game, throwing for 237 yards on 20 of 32 passing. He had 3 TD passes, but also was picked off twice. Elijah McGwire led the ground attack with 129 yards on 13 carries (9.9 ypc), while leading the WR corps was Jamal Robinson, who caught 5 passes for 112 yards (22.4 ypc). The defense was solid, as they allowed Southern just 279 total yards, including just 77 yards on the ground and at 2.4 ypc.

Pick: I will go with the Ragin Cajuns in this one. They are clearly the best team in the Sun Belt and have plenty of experience coming back with 61 lettermen and 17 starters. The Bulldogs had problems on offense last week and are still missing a couple of WRs for this one and I feel that they just won’t be able to put up enough points here to keep this one close. UL Lafayett by 17+ here.
