Colorado State welcomes Mountain West newcomer Fresno State to Fort Collins tonight as it attempts to avoid a 0-2 start in conference play (7:00pm ET start time). College Football Saturday odds like the Bulldogs to win handily, though, as they are a -17.5 against the spread road favorite in this evening’s game. The Over/Under in tonight’s Mountain West clash at Hughes Stadium is set at 60 points.
Fresno State has yet to win back to back games this season, but that has more to do with scheduling breaks rather than its play. The Bulldogs faced No. 2 Oregon the second week of the season and they had to take a trip to Tulsa following a week three home win over Colorado.
This evening presents Fresno State with its best opportunity yet to begin a win streak as it should follow up last weekend’s 52-40 win over San Diego State with a victory tonight.
The Rams are 1-4 on the season and they ride a four game skid into tonight’s meeting with Fresno. Colorado State dumped in-state rival Colorado 22-17 to open its 2012 schedule but has since lost to North Dakota State, San Jose State, Utah State, and Air Force by an average of 17 points per game.
The Rams defense, which is allowing over 420 yards per game, will have few answers for Derek Carr and the Fresno offense. The Bulldogs are averaging over 41 points and 511 yards per game and they figure to reach or crest both of those totals against Colorado State.
It should be noted, though, that historically the Rams have been a solid play as a home dog of 14 to 17.5 points. Colorado State is 0-5 straight up since 1996 when lined between those totals, but it did cover the number in four of those games. Conversely, the Bulldogs are 0-6-1 against the spread (4-3 straight up) since October of 1999 when playing as a road favorite with a spread between 14 and 17.5 points.
