The Penn State Nittany Lions are looking to get back on track in college football action Saturday when they host the Buffalo Bulls. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Nittany Lions favored by almost three touchdowns in this one.
Whoa, Nelly did Penn State get a dose of reality in their opening game, losing on the road at Temple. Christian Hackenberg spent most of the game avoiding defensive players, only to spend the rest of the game on his back getting sacked. Penn State looked awful offensively, scoring all 10 of their points in the opening quarter and then never sniffing the end zone again. Hackenberg threw for only 103 yards, the Nittany Lions ran for only 80 more, but that did include -59 yards from Hackenberg. Temple figured out the ground game and stuck with it, posting 145 yards and three touchdowns.
Penn State and Buffalo have played twice, the home team has picked up the win each time. The Bills are certainly feeling pretty good coming into this one, having picked up a 51-14 win over Albany in their opener. Buffalo scored in all four quarters of the game, including double digits the final three stanzas, Joe Licata tossed for 245 yards and two scores, Anthone Taylor rushed for 104 and two scores himself. The Bills looked comfortable on the offensive side of the football, but that will be tested against Penn State.
James Franklin and his team will want to get on top early and look to play better on both sides of the football. This game falls before the Nittany Lions take on Rutgers in their Big Ten opener next week, but after last week’s debacle Penn State can’t afford to be looking ahead against anyone.
The spread is big at almost three touchdowns. That seems like a big overreaction.
