The BYU Cougars are taking on the Wyoming Cowboys tonight in the San Diego County Credit Poinsettia Bowl. The game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. The college football odds for the game have the Cougars favored to pick up the win.

BYU will be going with backup quarterback Taylor Mangum, who has some experience, in this game as the starter. Taysom Hill busted up his elbow in the season finale and won’t be able to go in this game, but its nice to have a serviceable backup. Mangum, a sophomore, didn’t play a ton this season but threw for 23 scores in 2015.
Wyoming had a strong season in winning eight games, they finished 6-2 in the Mountain West this year but struggled down the stretch, losing three of their final four games including the conference title game to San Diego State.
Wyoming will be playing in its first bowl game since 2011 when they played in the New Mexico Bowl in a 35-17 loss to Temple.
Away from home this season BYU covered the number all six times, but they will have to play some defense in this one in order to achieve that goal again. Wyoming averaged better than 37 points per game this season, led by QB Josh Allen and his 26 TD passes. They also have a strong running game with Brian Hill bruising his way around the field — he ran for 1,767 yards and 21 scores this season.
Defense is the strong point for BYU, the Cougars surrendered just 19.4 points per game, which was Top 15 nationally. They also have a strong running game with Jamaal Williams, who averages better than 5.5 yards per carry with 11 touchdowns. BYU can be a methodical offense, but at times it can work, especially when they play the field position battle and have a strong defense.
