College Football Picks Boise State vs Utah State

Saturday night college football and we will see the Boise State Broncos take on the Utah State Aggies in Logan, Utah. The game will be televised on CBSSN and has a start time of 8:00 pm (Eastern). Current Odds have Boise State listed as 6 point favorites, while the total sits at 50.5.

Analysis: The Broncos are not a team that is used to losing and they already have 2 losses on the year. Last week they had the week off, but prior to that they did thrash Southern Miss by a 60-7 count. The Broncos have now put up four straight games with at least 40 points, a feat that hasn't been matched by a BSU squad since doing so in seven consecutive games back in 2010. Quarterback Joe Southwick is the leader of this offense converting 73.5 percent of his pass attempts, with nine touchdowns and just three interceptions. The defense for the Broncos has not been it's usual stout self as they are 70th in total defense, 86th vs the pass, while allowing 24 ppg. Boise has been torched for a combined 79 points in the two losses to Washington and Fresno State, both on the road. It has been three years since the Broncos last tangled with USU, but you can be sure that the Aggies have not forgotten the 50-14 beat down brought on by BSU. With that loss, Utah State fell behind Boise State in the all-time series, 13-4.

The Utah State Aggies are also off to a 3-2 start on the year, but their season is in jeopardy with the loss of super QB Chuckie Keeton. One of the hottest passers in the country and a record-setting player for the Aggies, Keeton went down with an injury in the loss to BYU last week, 31-14, and news out of Logan has him tearing both his ACL and MCL in his left knee. Backup quarterback Craig Harrison will take over after completing 18-of-41 passes for 185 yards and a late TD vs BYU last week. Overall this year the Aggie offense ranks 31st in total yards and 37th in scoring (36 ppg). The defense for this team has been very solid this year, ranking 23rd in the nation in yards allowed, 27th vs the pass and they give up just 19.3 ppg.

Pick: Have to go with Boise State in this one. No Chuckie Keeton for the Aggies means that this offense will struggle in this one. The Boise state offense has no such worries and should be able to have a nice day vs an Aggie defense that was exploited some last week vs BYU. I look for at least a 10 point win.
