Sun Belt Tuesday and we will see the UL Lafayette Ragin Cajuns travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas to take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves. The has a start time of 8:00 PM (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN 2. Current odds for the game have UL Lafayette listed as 2.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 68.
Analysis: UL Lafayette comes in on a roll, having won 4 in a row, including last Tuesday's 17 point road win over Western Kentucky. The Cajuns are now 4-2 on the year and 2-0 in the Sun Belt. Louisiana's offense averages 440.0 ypg, and while that has the team ranked fifth in the Sun Belt, its ranks first in scoring at 38.5 ppg. The leader of the offense is Terrance Broadway, who has completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 1,243 yards with 11 TDs and 4 INTs, plus he has also run for 194 yards and another 5 scores. Jamal Robinson is Broadway's most trusted receiver, as he's hauled in 26 balls for 436 yards and six touchdowns, while Alonzo Harris leads the ground attack with 444 yards and 5 Tds. Defensively, the Cajuns have not played especially well, allowing 27.2 ppg, but that has been good enough to rank them third in the Sun Belt, while they have also had 16 takeaways on the year.
Arkansas State is the two-time reigning Sun Belt Conference champions and have started this year at 3-3, while winning their lone Sun Belt game vs Troy State, back on Sept 12. Arkansas State averages 31.0 ppg and 481.3 ypg on offense and are led by QB Adam Kennedy, who has completed 67% of his passes for 262.3 ypg, but with just 7 Tds to 3 INTs. The Red Wolves ground attack is led by David Oku, has 396 yards and five touchdowns on the ground this year. Arkansas State could stand to drastically improve its defense if it wants to contend for another conference title. The unit allows nearly 30 ppg and 440.2 ypg. Ragin Cajuns own a slim 21-19-1 advantage in this series. but Arkansas State got the better of the Cajuns last October, winning 50-27 in Lafayette.
Pick: I will look t the Ragin Cajuns to take this one. They are truly on a roll, having won 4 in a row and they are 2-0 in the Sun Belt. A win here would go along way towards taking the Sun Belt title from the Red Wolves. Both teams don't play great defense, but the Cajuns play it a bit better and they have the edge on offense with Terrance Broadway running the show. The Red Wolves have won the Sun Belt 2 years in a row, but it's time for the reign to come to an end. The Cajuns are playing just a bit better right now and they should walk away with at least a 7 point win here.
